Macau edges out Las Vegas

January 3rd, 2007

For 35 years the Hotel Lisboa was the only casino in Macau. But that’s all about to change as Vegas heavyweights enter the market.

Stanley Ho, has controlled Macau’s gaming for four decades has seen his share of the gambling revenue decrease by over 50% in the last couple of years. With the likes of Steve Wynn of Wynn Resorts Ltd. and Sheldon Adelson of the Sands coming to town, it’s a safe bet that his share will continue to dwindle.

How bad is for Stanley Ho? Two of his seventeen children have joined forces with his American counterparts while Ho and His sister a minority shareholder in his company battle over selling part of the company to raise money to compete with Wynn and Adelson.

Why Macau? There are a total of 2,2 billion people that live within a 5 hour flight of Macau. Thats 7 times the amount of people that live with the flight time on Las Vegas. And there is no ethnicity that enjoys gambling more than Asians do.

There will be much more news on Macau in the coming months as the battle is still in it’s infancy, but one thing is for sure, there is plenty of opportunity to make a fortune here. not just for the casino owners, but for anyone who invests in Macau.

Poker Freerolls vs Buyins by Borgouise

January 1st, 2007

Every day, on every poker server, it is the same: Thousands of people register hourly for any type of freeroll that they can find. You see them: 10,000 person freerolls that pay $50 between top 20 places or such. Sometimes, they get “lucky” and find 2000 person freerolls that may pay $100 between top 30. People play for hours on end trying to earn a couple pennies.

Some of these players “get smart” (or so they think) and find private freerolls, which usually split $50 over the top 10, and only have approximately 200 players. And I use only very loosely.
So, by spending 3-4 hours, you can walk away with a whopping…$12. Let us break that down, and compare it with regular jobs.

$12 over 4 hours IF YOU WIN. That is a maximum profit of $3/hour. And that is only if you win. Now, 2nd place is often approximately half of first, giving you a massive $6, or $1.50/hour, for you will play the exact amount of time as the winner. 3rd and 4th is so miniscule that we will not even discuss it.
This is not saying that playing freerolls is bad. I have known people that have taken this $12 of freeroll winnings over $800. How, you ask? BY PLAYING BUYINS.

By risking an amount as minimal as $1, you play for an exponentially larger sum of money. You will be playing against the same amount of people, for the same amount of time, for more money. If everyone pays $1, and there are the same 200 players, which is a $200 prize pool, which lasts approximately 3-4 hours max. So, by risking just $1 (of freeroll winnings even) you get a chance at 4x the original prize pool.
There are two special areas of buyins that make playing them even better. These would be tournaments with guaranteed prize pools and tournaments with money added.

Guaranteed pools- Poker servers will guarantee a large sum of money to attract more players. However, rather often, the number of players needed to make the site come out even doesn’t arrive. So, for a $1 buyin, $300 guaranteed, 300 people are needed. If the assumed 200 people play, that is an extra $100 to the pool, free. So, for that dollar, you are getting 6x the original prize pool.

Now, the most profitable buyin of all: Money added tournaments. These are put up by various forums (chipsahoy.net has numerous, visit the freeroll section (I am sure you already have) for more information) in which money is added to the prize pool. So, $3 buyin, which MAY attract 20 people, will have $85 dollars in the pool, and there are only 20 people to play through to get about $40 dollars. Forums hold these to get increased membership. I personally found a $2 buyin with $50 added, AND ONLY 6 PEOPLE REGISTERED. That paid me $42 for my win, with only $2 at risk.

Recap of what has been said: Freerolls are fine in their own right, but the real money is to be found in buyins. If you do earn $ in freerolls, don’t sit on it, waiting for another to be found. Hop right in a guaranteed prize pool or money added tournament and get to earning the real money.

Party Gaming Buys Empire Online

December 29th, 2006

PartyGaming’s deal to buy online gaming site Empire Online is complete. The site also bought Intercontinental Online Gaming.

PartyGaming estimates the acquisitions will generate $8.5 million worth of revenue in 2007. The deal for both companies represents $66.3 million in PartyGaming shares.

Empire Online is now completely out of the gaming business. The company announced yesterday that it will become an investment house once the sale is complete. The sale of Empire to PartyGaming depends on Empire shareholder approval, but the transaction is expected to be complete by Jan. 19.

Intercontinental Online operated eight sites, including Magic Box Casino, Casino King, Swiss Casino, and Sunshine Bingo. Empire’s biggest site was Noble Poker.

Shares of PartyGaming stayed almost the same on the London Stock Exchange after the announcement at 31.25 pence, while shares of Empire Online rose slightly from 42 pence yesterday to 44 today.

Party Poker to re-enter US market?

December 28th, 2006

Rumors have been flying in recent days that PartyGaming will reopen its Party Poker internet poker room to the US market.  Following the signing into law a bill that would curb some forms of internet gambling, PartyGaming abruptly pulled its popular PartyPoker site out of the US market.  Many experts believed they did so prematurely.  Rumors of a possible PartyGaming announcement regarding its reemergence in the US market first appeared on the PokerNews.com website.

The London Stock Exchange trading PartyGaming was the largest IPO of 2005 in the United Kingdom, and was valued higher than British Airways.

Despite losing approximately 80% of its customer base, PartyPoker is now the number two largest online poker room in the world.  In fact, the poker room, which had been neck and neck with Full Tilt Poker,  is now drawing a much larger gap in recent weeks according to PokerSiteScout.com.

Following a huge drop in its overall share price back in October, PartyGaming is slowly said to be recovering.
